Can Micro-dosing substitute as a healthier option than alcohol and pharmaceuticals?

You’re a parent familiar with stressful feelings. You love your kids but damn, sometimes all you want is a break. It’s not even noon and you’d like to pour yourself a glass of wine but fear becoming dependent on the substance, and instead pop a valium.

The idea of taking a pill sounds better. “Everyone does it” — you think. But after taking the drug you put little thought into the mechanisms behind the medicine, and what its doing to your body rarely crosses your mind. Soon you feel better and can go on about your parenting; albeit a little drugged.

The problem with valium is that it comes with some pretty nasty side effects. “It can increase thoughts of suicide, cause respiratory depression, dizziness, drowsiness, and is also known to be habit forming. It’s definitely not a substance that can be mixed with alcohol and taking more than your prescribed dose can be deadly.” [1]

We all know what alcohol does to your wellbeing — what if there was a safer, more natural alternative to living a quality life without putting yourself or your loved ones at risk.

People have found success micro-dosing, which is the technique of taking a “sub-therapeutic” (low) dose of medicine unlikely to produce full body effects, but is high enough to receive a cellular response.

Micro-dosing is viewed more like a daily supplement. It’s usually around 2.5–5mg of THC so it’s a low enough dose to calm your nerves, quiet the pain of a headache, and help remove non-productive thoughts from your mind so you can focus on things that really matter — like playing with your toddler before a nap or entertaining guests after a long week.

Our favorite way to micro-dose comes from the company Kiva Confections and their Petra Mints products which are 100mg in total but are broken into individual mints each equaling only 2.5mg of THC. The way to successfully use this product is to start with 1 and work your way up to your desired dosage.

Just the right amount

Consuming 1 mint will not get you high but it can have tremendous benefits on your wellbeing. There’s no need to fear getting stoned or feeling a psychoactive stimulus because it’s a sub-therapeutic dose; however, if you eat too many it’s possible you could exceed the therapeutic window and find yourself in an uncomfortably high experience.

We’ve also found micro-dosing to be perfect for beginners looking to try cannabis for the first time, or for an individual looking for a light mood enhancement. It doesn’t matter who you are: a mom at home caring for the kids or a business executive running meetings all day — consuming a small dose of THC can help and enhance both of you to perform throughout the day.

There’s no need to feel guilty regarding your wellbeing and the products you use to find a greater sense of purpose. The days of the couch lock stoner are hopefully behind us — cannabis is proving to be far more beneficial than mass media and propaganda have taught us over the last 80 years.
